St. John’s Place Family Center: Comprehensive Retrofit for Enhanced Living

St. John’s Place Family Center, located at 1604, 1620, and 1630 St. John’s Place in Brooklyn, NY, consists of three buildings originally constructed in the 1920s. Currently undergoing extensive energy efficiency upgrades and retrofitting, these buildings continue to serve as vital resources for families experiencing homelessness.

Project Background
Settlement Housing Fund developed the St. John’s Place Family Center in 1990 as an alternative to welfare hotels. For over 30 years, the Family Center has provided apartment-style shelter for families experiencing homelessness, as well as social services, such as day care and help securing permanent housing. The three buildings that make up St. John’s Place Family Center began full renovations in 2022, focusing on enhancing energy performance and improving the living conditions for senior residents.

Project Details
The retrofit includes updates to improve energy efficiency and the installation of eFlow-CAR Ceiling Fire Damper Assemblies. These upgrades ensure the buildings meet contemporary standards while continuing to provide safe and comfortable accommodations. eFlow collaborated directly with the contractor Skilled Mechanical to supply this project.
